SmallMusicNote.jpg2010 - 2011 Syllabus

Chorus is a year long class and students are expected to participate in performances.

Students will perform music and sight-reading to the expected competency level of their chorus.

Students will cultivate a general knowledge of music history, particularly in relationship to composers and works studied during the semester.

Students will begin to develop an academic and kinesthetic understanding of the basics of vocal technique -- understanding the ideas and practicing them in their singing.

Students will continually enhance their perception of and ability to participate in choral singing.

SmallMusicNote.jpgGRADING PROCEDURES:

Seatwork on elements of music 30%

            Daily rehearsal participation  60%

            Participation in scheduled performances 10%

Every student begins the first nine weeks with a grade of 100.  Participation point deductions may result from any of the following:

Lack of cooperation, no music, inattention, nonparticipation, chewing gum, eating, drinking drinks other than water, leaving out music.

Excused absences from a performance will be granted for those too sick to stand, the bereaved, or those attending the marriage ceremony for an immediate family member.  Any other causes for absences will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Excused absences may be made up by an assignment comparable to the 10% grade that was missed.
